EDMR Therapy, what is it?

EMDR therapy, or Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, is a psychotherapy approach designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. The therapy involves guiding the client through specific eye movements while they recall distressing events, aiming to facilitate the processing of these memories. This method helps individuals reframe their experiences and reduces the emotional impact of memories related to trauma. EMDR is recognised for its effectiveness in treating conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and it can also be beneficial for a range of other emotional and psychological challenges. The structured nature of EMDR sessions allows clients to explore even the most difficult memories in a safe environment, promoting healing and resilience.
